How to Set Up Meta Pixel on Your Website (Step-by-Step Guide)

In this video, we’ll show you how to easily set up Meta Pixel on your website and start tracking user actions for better ad targeting. We’ll guide you through creating your Meta Pixel, adding the Pixel code to your website, and ensuring it’s properly installed.

This tutorial will help you get your Meta Pixel up and running so you can collect valuable data and optimize your ad campaigns for better performance.

Step 1: Create a Meta Ad Account and Get Your Ad ID

To create a Meta Pixel, you first need a Meta Ad Account and an Ad ID. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to Meta Business Manager and log in.

  2. Click on Business Settings in the left-hand menu.

  3. Under Accounts, select Ad Accounts and click Add.

  4. Choose Create a New Ad Account and follow the prompts.

  5. Once created, click on the Ad Account and copy the Ad ID from the URL or settings.

Without an Ad ID, you cannot create a Meta Pixel, so make sure this step is completed first.

Step 2: Ensure Your Business Manager Email is Set Up

If you're setting up the Pixel manually using code, Meta requires that your Business Manager account has a verified email address.

To check:

  1. Go to Business Settings in Meta Business Manager.

  2. Under Business Info, look for your email address.

  3. If it’s missing or unverified, add and verify it before proceeding.

Step 3: Create a New Meta Pixel in Events Manager

  1. Go to Meta Events Manager.

  2. Click “Connect Data Sources” in the left menu.

  3. Select “Web” and then “Connect”.

  4. Choose “Meta Pixel” and click Continue.

  5. Enter a Pixel Name (e.g., "My Business Pixel").

  6. Enter your website URL (optional but recommended).

  7. Click Create.

Now, your Pixel is created, but it needs to be installed on your website.

Step 4: Manually Install the Pixel on Your Website (Recommended)

For the most control over tracking, install the Pixel manually using code.

Squarespace

  1. Log in to Squarespace and go to Settings > Advanced > Code Injection.

  2. Paste the Pixel base code into the Header section.

  3. Click Save.

Shopify

  1. Go to Shopify Admin > Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Find Facebook Pixel and paste the Pixel ID.

  3. Click Save.

WordPress (Without a Plugin)

  1. Go to Appearance > Theme Editor.

  2. Open header.php and paste the Pixel before </head>.

  3. Click Update File.

Step 5: Verify the Pixel is Working

  1. Go back to Meta Events Manager.

  2. Click “Test Events”.

  3. Open your website in a new tab.

  4. If your Pixel is tracking, you will see activity in Events Manager.

Step 6: Set Up Events (Optional, But Recommended)

Setting up events allows Meta to track actions like purchases, sign-ups, or page views.

  1. In Meta Events Manager, click “Add Events”.

  2. Choose “From the Pixel”.

  3. Select standard events like Page View, Add to Cart, or Purchase.

  4. Click Save.
